EUROPEAN LAW FIRM welcomes new member from Latvia

Representatives from 21 member firms convened last month at the European Law Firm general meeting in Stockholm.

Following a detailed presentation from Ivo Klotins and subsequent discussion, delegates voted unanimously in favour of accepting Riga based law firm Attorneys-at-Law Klotini & Sergis as the newest member. The firm was originally established in 1992 and today offers company & civil law, international arbitration, labour, IP & publishing, land rights and criminal law advice to both domestic and international clients.

Sarah-Louise Green updated delegates on the work of Central Office and in particular the referral of work between members. Holla Advocaten (Netherlands) was the top receiver of referral work over the past quarter, while Van Landuyt & Partners (Belgium) referred the highest number of matters. She highlighted the growing interest from other law firms in ELF and confirmed that Studio dell' Avvocato Virgilio Gaito would be collaborating with Milan based candidate firm Ceriani e Associati to strengthen representation in northern Italy.

The agenda also included very interesting talks on the work of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce from Nina Berggren, Legal counsel, SCC and US Immigration law from Susan Cohen of Mintz & Levin, both of which prompted lively question and answer sessions afterwards.

Delegates approved the 2009 final accounts, the 2010 budget and the final draft of the Business strategy. Our hosts, Lindskog Malmström Advokatbyrå also gave a helpful overview of the work undertaken at their firm and highlighted their specialisations in Swedish and International business law, real estate & environmental, bankruptcy, private client and tax advice. Finally, all members were encouraged to join the European Law Firm LinkedIn group to aid communication between members outside the three annual general meetings.

Following the meeting, delegates had the opportunity to get to know our newest member and for general networking.

Next General Meeting: 23-25 September 2010, Athens
